Engineering Projects Run Governed, With Tracking Up 42% and Full Compliance
A global manufacturer of engineering plants brought large, complex projects onto one governed cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform. We implemented SAP Business ByDesign across core operations, integrated finance, logistics, warehouse and project management, and standardized reporting to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Project-tracking efficiency rose 42%, with full IFRS compliance.
The Challenge
Large-scale engineering projects were tracked with limited visibility into cost and performance, and the group needed to standardize accounting under International Financial Reporting Standards at the same time. That combination typically drives late budget surprises and slows statutory reporting, which is a hard place to be when the projects themselves run for years. For a business running large, complex engineering plants, that is a governance gap rather than a reporting inconvenience. Budget problems arrived late, when the money was already committed. Statutory reporting took longer than it should. Neither project teams nor group finance could see a project's true position while it still mattered.
What We Did
We implemented SAP Business ByDesign across core operations, then integrated finance, logistics, warehouse and project management on it. Project cost and performance stopped being assembled after the fact and started coming from the same system that runs the work. We standardized financial reporting to IFRS requirements inside the same platform, so compliance is a property of how the group records work rather than a quarterly exercise bolted on at the end. Reporting reliability now measures 99.7%.
The Solution
One governed ERP now carries the group's large engineering projects. Cost control is real time, financial reporting follows IFRS as standard, and project variance shows up early enough to act on.
The Outcome
Project-tracking efficiency improved 42% and project cost variance fell 30%. IFRS reporting compliance reached 100% and financial reporting reliability 99.7%, all from the same platform that now runs finance, logistics, warehouse and project management. Late budget surprises gave way to governed delivery. Project teams see cost and performance while a project is still running, and statutory reporting no longer waits on a reconciliation exercise. Engineering work is finally governed on the same terms as the accounts.
